Tartan Day April 6th

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

I didn’t realize this is a rather recent ‘official’ day for the United States.  National Tartan Day legislation started in 1987 with continued resolutions being passed through 2005.  Tartan Day is a day to celebrate Scottish Heritage.   April 6, 1320 was the date on which the Declaration of Arbroath was signed.   Canada, U.S.A., Scotland, and Argentina celebrate on April 6.  Not all countries celebrate Scottish heritage on the same date.  Australia and New Zealand celebrate on July 1, to acknowledge the Repeal Proclamation of 1782.  Very interesting how the Scottish people spread to so many lands and contributed to each of those societies.  So for Tartan Day, wear your tartan and be proud of your Scottish heritage.  It’s a day to recognize that association throughout the United States and other countries!  There is lots of information about Tartan Day available on the internet.  Just google – Tartan Day.
