Parades

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

As we get ready to march in the parade for the Church Hill Irish Festival, I was thinking about why we have parades. We have them to celebrate, honor, remember, or just draw attention. They are fun. Color and music are two things that come to mind. How about Scottish parades? The Tartan Day parade in New York, The Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk, and opening ceremonies for Highland Games are some Scottish parades. What is your favorite parade?

Books Set in Scotland

Hello Fellow Readers!

I just finished the stack of M.C. Beaton books that I purchased at the Burns’ Night Dinner Silent Auction. I love the Hamish MacBeth series. I actually have seen pretty much all of the T.V. shows based on those books. We even went to Plockton when we were in Scotland because that’s where the T.V. series was shot. I didn’t get all the books in the series so now I need to make a list of the missing books and find them! It’s so much fun to read a book that mentions real places that you’ve actually visited. As for the other two books that featured Agatha Raisin, I just can’t get into those. The character really annoys me. Anyone else read this series? It’s in the Cotswolds, so maybe that’s why I don’t like it as much. However, I don’t think the setting is the problem. It’s really the character. I just don’t like her. What do you think? Do I see myself in this character?

Anyone have any favorite books set in Scotland? I’ve read most of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.
